Vestibular Rehabilitation Therapy in Woodbridge
Dizziness, vertigo, or imbalance can make daily routines feel uncertain and exhausting. Vestibular Rehabilitation Therapy (VRT) offers a structured way to address these challenges by retraining the balance system. At Core Health Care in Woodbridge, our evidence-based programs are tailored to your needs and provided in a supportive environment that encourages steady progress.
Understanding Vestibular Rehabilitation Therapy
The vestibular system, located in the inner ear, plays a vital role in balance, coordination, and spatial awareness. When affected by injury, illness, or aging, it can lead to symptoms such as:
- Dizziness, spinning sensations, or unsteadiness when walking
- Motion sensitivity in busy environments or with head movement
- Blurred vision, difficulty focusing, nausea, or fatigue
VRT uses specific exercises to help the brain and inner ear work together again. This approach may reduce symptoms and promote greater comfort in daily activities.
Who May Benefit
Vestibular rehabilitation may be recommended for individuals with conditions such as Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo (BPPV), Vestibular Neuritis, Labyrinthitis, Meniere’s Disease, or concussion-related dizziness. It can also assist people with chronic imbalance, age-related balance changes, or those at increased risk of falls.
What to Expect During Care
Your first visit includes a 60-minute assessment that reviews your symptoms, medical history, and functional balance testing. Based on this evaluation, a personalized plan is developed, which may include repositioning maneuvers for BPPV, gaze stabilization exercises, balance and gait training, habituation strategies for motion sensitivity, and education for self-management.
Follow-up sessions (30-45 minutes) are designed to adapt your program as you improve. Care is provided by Sava, a registered physiotherapist with advanced training in vestibular rehabilitation, including Vestibular Rehabilitation: Introduction (Bernard Tonks) and Concussion Rehab Works, Levels 1 & 2 (Shannon McGuire).
